Karin Konoval and Bob Frazer among winners at 2018 UBCP/ACTRA Awards

Vancouver actors and stunt artists enjoyed a rare moment in the spotlight on Saturday night at the 2018 UBCP/ACTRA Awards.

Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Voice, Best Stunt, and Best Emerging Performer were handed out over a two-hour ceremony at the Vancouver Playhouse hosted by veteran actor Jay Brazeau.

Karin Konoval won the Best Actress Award for her universally acclaimed roles as Chucky and Judy Poundstone in “Plus One,” the third episode of The X-Files’ 11th season. “There’s more Chucky in me than Judy,” she joked, affecting Chucky’s throaty tone.

Bob Frazer took home the Best Actor Award for his work as an ailing adult film star in The Cannon. Frazer wasn’t present for the ceremony – he was filming a project in Campbell River alongside Hiro Kanagawa – but The Cannon director Marshall Axani accepted the award on Frazer’s behalf, reading a spirited speech that included a bounty of compliments for the director (“That’s how you get a second role,” Axani deadpanned).

Daniel Doheny won Best Emerging Performer for his work in Adventures in Public School (for which he also won a Leo Award earlier this year). Sabrina Pitre received the Best Voice trophy for her work in Chuck’s Voice, and stunt coordinator Brett Chan and performers Gerald Paetz, Andrew Chin, and Mark Chin won the award for Best Stunt for their work in Darc.

The Lorena Gale Woman of Distinction Award was presented to acting dynamo and educator Jennifer Clement, and the John Juliani Award of Excellence was presented to stunt legend Lauro Chartrand-DelValle.
